Today is the 204th merseyside derby that every fan living on either the red or blue half of this place looks forward to eagerly.
The reason why this 2 teams are branded 'rivals' although Everton were never really that close to us in terms of achievements is down to geographical reasons. The 2 teams are seperated by Stanley Park, Goodison Park and Anfield being a stone throw away (not literally). Also, Liverpool was part of Everton before we went seperate ways and from then, we have been bitter rivals.
Good news is that Carragher and Riise are both fit according to liverpoolfc.tv and both teams are set to have a great clash.
EVERTON v
LIVERPOOL Overall league record:
Liverpool 65 wins, Everton 55 wins, Draws 54.
At Everton: Liverpool 28 wins, Everton 32 wins, Draws 27.
Last season Liverpool completed a league 'double' over their city rivals, winning both games 3-1. In the first meeting, here at Goodison over Christmas, the Reds won thanks to goals from Peter Crouch, Steven Gerrard and Djibril Cisse. Everton finished the game with nine men after Phil Neville and Mikel Arteta were dismissed. Everton's goal, by James Beattie, was the first conceded by Liverpool for 762 minutes.
In the return Liverpool won 3-1 at Anfield. Steven Gerrard was sent off before Phil Neville (o.g.), Luis Garcia and Harry Kewell found the net. Tim Cahill scored for the Blues who had Andy Van Der Meyde red carded.
Liverpool have won 79 of the 203 meetings with Everton winning 63 and 61 ending in stalemate.
In League meetings today will see the 175th clash. The Reds lead those wins by 65-55.
Liverpool have lost just one of the last eight Derbies at Goodison winning five of the last six. The Blue half of Merseyside have celebrated a derby win in just one of the last 13 meetings home and away. That came in December 2004 when Lee Carsley scored the only goal.
Anyway i reckon that we will
NOT win this easily as Andy Johnson and co. have been in form these weeks. Final score 3-0 with Bellamy, Kuyt and Gerrard scoring. Oh yeah i gotta do my maths anyway. =\
