Singapore should adapt Britain's healthcare management system because they are able to meet the needs of the people better. Explain your answer.

Another essay..

No, Singapore should not adapt to Britain's healthcare system as it can meet the needs of its citizens as well as the latter. Meeting the healthcare needs of the people means being able to provide low costing treatment that is sufficient for everyone when needed.

Let me describe both healthcare systems. Britain's healthcare system takes care of its citizens from birth to death, simplying by providing low cost treatment. Patients just have to pay an amount of six pounds for the medicine given. And in other words, the services provided are free. Singapore's healthcare system is built over the years. The government has implemented many campaigns to keep Singapore clean, and provide the necessities such as polyclinics, improvement of the facilities in government hostipals and increase the number of doctors and hospital beds to cater to the needs of the citizens. Then the National Health Plan was drawn up by the Ministry Of Health and one of its aims was to 'build up individual resources so that those who fall sick will be able to pay'. This resulted to the introduction of the '3Ms'. Namely 'Medisave', 'MediShield' and 'Medifund'.

The Medisave account is continuously funded by the employers of employees by adding a small percentage of their salary into the account. The money can be used to pay for medical fees. The MediShield is designed to help members meet the medical expenses from major or prolonged illnesses from which their Medisave balance would not be sufficient to cover. Lastly the MediFund. It is an endowment fund set up by to help needy Singaporeans who are unable to pay for their medical expenses. This fund acts as a safety net for those who cannot afford the subsidised bill charges despite Medisave and MediShield coverage.

The government of both countries pays and subsidies the healthcare costs by taxing its people. Britain offers a very cheap healthcare service. This results in low efficiency as workers in the government-owned companies need not worry about making a profit and doctors often prescribed the medical treatment without consideration of the costs. And also this resulted in long waiting queues as many went for treatment even thought they did not really needed it. The government are required to tax more from its people to pay for the healthcare costs. Thus business are driven away as it was no longer profitable to situate their companies in Britain.

Singapore does not provide low cost services and instead the citizens are actually paying through their own money whenever they go for treatment. Therefore the citizens have a sense of self-awareness and does not waste the resources available. And with the '3Ms', the healthcare in Singapore is more than sufficient and one is able to pay for treatment even in dire striats.

Therefore i conclude that Singapore should not adapt to Britain's healthcare system. Although both the healthcare systems in both countries are able to meet the needs of its people, the healthcare system in Britain harms the economy of the country and lets the people have the 'why work' attitude since the government is paying for everything whereas in Singapore the people are more dependant on themselves.
